Landslide also known as a landslip, is a geological phenomenon that includes a wide range of ground movements such as rock falls, deep failure of slopes and shallow debris flows. Landslides in lndia, especially in the North-East regions, are caused due to slope failures which occur due to heavy rainfall. Thus, in order to protect people and livestock, and reduce damage to infrastructure, there is need for a robust cost-effective real-time monitoring system that can forecast slope failures. ln this project, we plan to prototype a-solar powered ZIGBEE based wireless sensor network, where the nodes can sample several physical quantities of interest such as pore water pressure, rainfall, soil movement, and transmit them to a central server over a multi-hop wireless network. The central server can then use appropriate algorithms to compute the probability of slope failure.
